The Fallacious Portrait of the Ebony Woman
“Let’s watch some TV,” suggests a man.
“Yeah, sounds good, what’s on?” replies a woman.
“Oh the usual, hot blondes in corporate offices and the ghetto lady on the streets do a fuss,” informed the man.
“Oh, these shows are the best!” exclaimed the woman, as she is to the highest degree to partake in an element of partnership that affects sub-groups and sub-cultures daily, the ken media. With its kernels of uprightness and highly hyped advertisements, mass media is always influencing what the public should think or feel.
In this case, a concern in the media is the affect it is having on Afro-American women. The mass media is heavily demeaning most African-American women, causing the public to have an unhealthy learn of beauty, indecent opinions of African-American women, and desensitization of their ability to perform in society.
The graduation element of influence is the image of beauty in the mass media today. What is viewed as beauty leaves little room for people who do not fit the category, especially African-American women.
This is dangerous because society is seeing replicas of the same image daily. Society is only beingness fed certain images and is being starved of the idea that being white, blonde, blue eyed, skinny, or over sexual does not needs make a person beautiful. Here and there a “beautiful” image of an African-American woman will appear, that it will go back into hiding or stretch the heavy burden of all African-American women on their back. For example, in magazines and films the lead character or most dominant image is that of a white woman, while black women or darker climb woman are not shown as much or are not the lead role of a film.
