So naturally, I set out for the nearest and most convenient source of soda available to student-kind: the friendly neighborhood vending machine. But alas, for whatever reason, the cash only soda machine in building 66 didn’t accept my friend’s 5-dollar bill. A normal person probably would have given up there, but since I am a solidly abnormal person, I dragged my friend along with me to find another vending machine. We also had no idea where any of the vending machines at MIT were, so we wound up walking up the Infinite, down the Infinite, and back around to building 14 before we finally found another cluster. I ended up getting coffee instead of soda and also managed to pass my physics test, so that was all well and good. The point of this story, however, is that it took us twenty minutes to find a vending machine. TWENTY MINUTES. Like, that’s a long time. Also, searching on the internet did not turn out to be helpful. You can find things like bathrooms and elevators on the MIT floorplans, but vending machines are unfortunately not placed on the same tier of importance, even though they totally are. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. On Thursday night, in lieu of prepping for the Career Fair, a group of friends and I scoured the entirety of campus that lies between W20 (the Student Center) and building 68 (Koch Institute) to locate every single publicly accessible vending machine. An open letter to my classmates [by Natalya Spicker] Hult Blog

Today is a really bittersweet day Bitter: a good portion of my MBA family is leaving London to rotate around the world for the next 2-4 months.  This takes me all the way back to highschool and that feeling of losing friends so close they feel like family; of those smiling faces I have seen more than my own mothers in the last 8 Months.  Its sad to think that, as much as I want to, I may never see some of these people ever again. That stuns me. And the sweet part (to undo the big a* knot I just made in your throat): I also realize that a life long dream of mine (as I am sure of others as well) came true today I can confidently say that I know someone from every part of the world. How amazing is that? I can also say that they are my friends, like family and my global network. HOW COOL IS THAT?  I can also say they make me a much better well rounded and multicultural person; that my perceptions and preconceptions of cultures, people, habits, mindsets have taken on completely different meaning a REAL meaning. I havent traveled around the world physically (yet), but after these last 8 months I have traveled it via hand shakes, awkward double, triple, (and sometimes) lips kiss moments, home cooked international meals, liquors of the world, and the pleasure of being able to see learn business through the eyes of unique experiences, mindsets, and upbringings. Today I realized, I have traveled around the world through each of the people I been so blessed to have met at Hult. Please be safe during your travels. Each of the members of the unnamed town has a strong passion for tradition. This sentence gives the reader an understanding that the lottery is an ancient tradition that has become an integral part of the town’s lifestyle. Paul had a passion to be wealthy as a way to prove to his mother that he was lucky. From a young age, he saw that his family always wanted more money to support a better lifestyle, yet there never seemed to be enough. Edward Snowden is America’s most recent controversial figure. People can’t decide if he is their hero or traitor. Nevertheless, his leaks on the U.S. government surveillance program, PRISM, demand an explanation. Many American citizens have been enraged by the thought of the government tracing their telecommunication systems. According to factbrowser.com 54% of internet users would rather have more online privacy, even at the risk of security (Facts Tagged with Privacy). They say it is an infringement on their privacy rights of the constitution. However, some of them don’t mind; they believe it will help thwart the acts of terrorists. Then in 2005, people of foreign countries began to find out that the government was listening to them, so Congress passed the FISA amendments of 2007, stating that the U.S. government would only interfere with communication if it felt it was a direct threat to the United States. Laws governing surveillance were originally issued by the government to protect the country from terrorists. Yet, critics argue that the NSA program has not helped prevent any terrorist attacks (Elliott). On the contrary, statistics from propublic.org show that fifty-four failed terrorist attacks were identified by the NSA surveillance program. Of that fifty-four, thirteen of them were in the United States (Eliott). Since 9/11, a total of fifty terrorist attacks on U.S. have been thwarted (Carafano). By those numbers, twenty-five percent of terrorists attacks targeted toward the U.S. were foiled because of the NSA. Eventually they may open up, wanting to talk about their feelings with someone they trust. February 11, 2012 marks the first anniversary of my grandpa’s death, a horrible fate for a great man. Cancerous tumors formed in his lungs. At first, he seemed unaffected by it. However, as the days proceeded, his condition gradually worsened. First he became confined to a wheel chair and catheter. This could not prove more false. Time may heal the wound, but a scar will forever remain on the soul. No matter how often people try to rid themselves of the scar, it will remain. The scar forces a person to remember, when all they want is to forget about the gut-wrenching pain of losing a loved one. Loss is not easy. No one wants to know how it feels, though most people do at some period in their lives. Loss means pain. Loss could tear a person’s heart in half. Trying to cope with any loss may seem impossible or unbearable at times. People who never experienced loss may think the period of time where someone grieves for the one they loved and lost holds no length, but it does. The grieving never ceases. It lasts forever, always present, but not always showing. Loss affects men and women alike in a way nothing else can. For a short while after a loss we might try to contact our loved ones, and then we remember they no longer walk this planet. It punches a hole in the heart. It twists our insides until we feel the need to vomit. It makes us feel small and afraid, as if at any moment something else we love will be wrenched from our grip. Loss causes tears, spilled for the ones taken by the black hands of death. Loss causes depression, a black hole in the face of death. Loss leaves a path of devastation and destruction. Perhaps some people may not understand the concept of loss, of the pain and suffering because of it. However, for the people who loved and lost, myself included, we know. We know the feeling of loss. We know how hard it seems to put the pain behind us and move on. We know, and we would not wish the experience upon anyone. It carries with it pain and suffering. People may think they know what awaits them after the death of a loved one, but no one really knows for sure until they experience it in full. People may imagine what it could compare to, but imagination is nothing compared to reality. Loss is not the end of the world. Chances of healing are great, but it just takes time. Maybe a couple of months or years, or maybe even a decade or two. Either way, the grief does not last forever. It will remain present, but it might never completely resurface. Happiness will find a way to surface, but who knows how long it takes. Only time will tell.
