Structure Of Dna And Protein Synthesis

Introduction:

In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick presented to the scientific creative activity a divalent helical model demonstrating the grammatical construction of DNA. The roentgen ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin actually took the photograph which aided Watson and Crick in installation of the model. Sadly in 1952 at the age of 38, Franklin died from ovarian cancer. In 1962, Watson and Crick along with a colleague of Franklin, Maurice Wilkins, received the Nobel value. Because the Nobel Prize is not awarded posthumously, Franklins contribution remains speculative. Watson and Crick did however, openly acknowledge that the image captured by Franklin was the first to reveal the double helical shape exhibited by DNA and greatly influenced their top executive to produce the DNA model.

According to Campbell 2001: The relationship between structure and function, one of the themes of biology is manifest in the double helix. The idea that there is no specific pairing of nitrogenous bases in DNA was the flash of inspiration that led Watson and Crick to the reject double helix. At the same time they saw the useable significance of the base-pairing rules. They ended their classic paper with this wry rehearsal: It has not escaped our notice that the specific pair we discombobulate postulated immediately suggests a possible copying mechanism for the inheritable material.

still of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen and phosphorus, nucleic acids are the largest molecules in the body. Composed of polymers of monomers [monomers are the building blocks of polymers], nucleic acids are complex structural units cognise as nucleotides.
