Therefore, in 1977, the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) was established. It is a national standards body own by the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments of Australia and also cans advice and consultancy services on T & I standards, accreditation, role and conduct of Translators and Interpreters and T & I skills in various settings. The NAATI accreditation system was set up to provide standards across the board of interpreting and translating needs, including for migrant languages, Indigenous languages, Auslan and worldwide conference. It is the only qualified institute of accepting for the profession of translation and interpreting in Australia.
