Speech Texts have the power to influence the way we opinion the world around us. This has challenged my perception and assumption I was unaware racial discrimination continued to exist during Kings time, despite the fact that the independence Proclamation was already enforced 150 years ago. This resolution proclaimed the freedom and equality of all African Americans from slavery. As stated previously, African Americans were no longer treated as second-class citizens after the Emancipation Proclamation was put into effect. However, King has challenged my assumption in his infamous speech which can be seen in the following quote: But one nose candy years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly stultify… One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island...

From this quote, we, as the audience, immediately realise the anaphora of one hundred years later repeated numerous multiplication throughout his third paragraph. King emphasised the lengthened sequence of one hundred years which serves as a continual reminder of how long the African Americans have been anticipating their freedom. Therefore, this has changed my assumption because the lengthy duration meant that freedom and respect never existed at all for the African Americans during the context of Kings rhetoric. Teachers and fellow students, I would like to exemplify another quote that has also challenged my assumption: The life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination....
