Robert attended the ethical Cultural School as an elementary student through High School. There he studied a descriptor of subjects from science and mathematics to Greek and French literature. This school do many of his moral and political views that would influence his decisions later in life.
He then studied at Harvard where he not unaccompanied pursued science but too philosophy and French Literature. It was at Harvard that he developed an interest in Oriental Philosophy. He was introduced to observational natural philosophy early at Harvard and took graduate level physics courses. In 1925, after only 3 years, he graduated summa cum laude with an A.B. in chemistry.
He then went to pursue a doctoral degree physique the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, England.
Due to his somewhat poor experimental work, he became more interested in the theoretical aspects of physics while at Cambridge. He then transferred to the University of Gottingen under goo Born, a notable theoretical physicist. He received his seat doctoral degree in only 2 years. It was in Germany that he became engaged in forming a new expanse of physics, quantum mechanics. Robert arrived in Europe as a rather inept laboratory physicist but left as an inspiring numerical physicist. He returned to Harvard and later The California Institute of Technology as a post doctoral fellow at the field of study Research Council.
